About this course

This GMR 2(1) course provides learners training on the key requirements of the Operational Health and Safety Act pertaining to the safe use of plant and machinery. It covers the implementation of the necessary measures and how to manage them. Learners are also trained on the legal requirements in terms of the machinery regulations.

  • 1. Understand the purpose of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, in particular the duties of the employer which should be carried out in order to comply with legal requirements and to safeguard the health and safety of employees in the workplace.

  • 2. Describe the legal requirements of the General Machinery Regulations.

  • 3. Understand the role and duties of the GMR 2 (1) Appointee and what is defined as a competent person as per the GMR.

  • 4. Understand the legal requirements pertaining to the safeguarding and operation of machinery

  • 5. Describe the safety requirements regarding the work on moving or electrically alive machinery and devices to start and stop machinery

  • 6. Understand the importance and legal requirements of reporting certain incidents in connection with machinery

  • 7. Describe the legal requirements regarding notifiable substances

  • 8. Describe the basic elements of an effective Health and Safety Management System.

Henk is passionate about health and safety and enjoys facilitating health and safety related training.     Simply drop us an email with your invoice details plus for every student (1) Name and surname as it will appear on the certificate (2) ID number and (3) unique email address. (For a group you can submit the information in Excel.) We will invoice you and once paid each student will receive their login email to get started with the course right away.

  • Is there a time limit for doing the course?

    At this stage there is no time limit on the course, but it's strongly advised that once started that you'll finish the course as soon as possible. Otherwise it can take forever.

  • How long will this course take?

    You can do this course in about two hours if you do it in 1 attempt. It depends on how fast you want to go and how you score in the quiz after each session. The sessions are very focused and loaded with key topics and learnings. You may want to cover a few sessions, recap the information in your study guide, and then continue with more sessions at a later stage. But this is up to you.

  • Do I need a computer?

    No, you can do the course on any device with good internet connection.

  • Will I receive a certificate?

    Yes, upon successful completion of the course you will receive a "Certificate-Of-Completion" in PDF at the end of the course. You can download and keep your certificate.
