About this course

This Section 8.2 training course introduces Supervisors to the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The training is focused on the health and safety rights and responsibilities of workers, supervisors and employers. It also serves as a general introduction to workplace health and safety. They will have a better understanding of concepts and principles in Health & Safety Management and their role as Supervisors in managing the risks in the workplace, as well as the required reporting of incidents. The course consists of focused session which include the following key topics:

  • 1. Understand the purpose of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, in particular the legal requirements that must be met by the employer in order to safeguard the health and safety of employees in the workplace.

  • 2. Understand the role and functions of the Section 8 (2) (i) Supervisor.

  • 3. Explain why it is important to manage health and safety in the workplace.

  • 4. Understand what incidents and accidents are, and the basic concepts related to incidents and accident investigations

  • 5. Describe the purpose of a Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment.

  • 6. Explain the different types of control measures used in the workplace to properly manage health and safety risks.

  • 7. Describe the basic health and safety monitoring activities.

    Simply drop us an email with your invoice details plus for every student (1) Name and surname as it will appear on the certificate (2) ID number and (3) unique email address. (For a group you can submit the information in Excel.) We will invoice you and once paid each student will receive their login email to get started with the course right away.

  • Is there a time limit for doing the course?

    At this stage there is no time limit on the course, but it's strongly advised that once started that you'll finish the course as soon as possible. Otherwise it can take forever.

  • How long will this course take?

    You can do this course in about two hours if you do it in 1 attempt. It depends on how fast you want to go and how you score in the quiz after each session. The sessions are very focused and loaded with key topics and learnings. You may want to cover a few sessions, recap the information in your study guide, and then continue with more sessions at a later stage. But this is up to you.

  • Do I need a computer?

    No, you can do the course on any device with good internet connection.

  • Will I receive a certificate?

    Yes, upon successful completion of the course you will receive a "Certificate-Of-Completion" in PDF at the end of the course. You can download and keep your certificate.
